In this book, you will find many things – poems and prose pieces written by Sarojini Naidu, notes by the editor and, above all, the editorial introduction by the editor himself, Makarand Paranjape. The poetry by Naidu is sweet, sad, happy, old, seldom contemporary and mostly emotive, directly coming out of her emotional outburst rather than being driven by her intellectual faculty guided by thoughts (that we often find in her prose). The attraction of this book, Sarojini Naidu: selected poetry and prose, is in the introduction written by the editor. Any research scholar, literary invested student or curious reader may find a fair assessment of the literary output of the subject. So, those who want to study Naidu’s poetry and prose will find the book interesting and useful. Those who want to enjoy poetry by Naidu should look for other collections because this one does not offer poetry and prose works in full. And mark it, I have not reviewed the works by Naidu. That is for another article. Interested in the editorial? Interested in knowing more about Sarojini Naidu’s poetry and prose? Want to read an objective assessment of Naidu as a literary figure?
