I guess many of the readers must have read the works of Amitav Ghosh. And when we talk about his works, the first thing that comes to mind is the choice of themes he comes up with. The Hungry Tide explores the theme of humanism and environmentalism. Beyond the tranquillity of the theme, it gives us insight into the Marichjhapi massacre that happened in 1977 in West Bengal and explores the beauty of the beautiful Sundarban and its inhabitants in amazing words. The story flows so smoothly that even silence in conversation is communicating everything. There are many conflicts that have been exhibited in the novel – internal and external. To conclude, you should read this novel even if you cannot put up with the elitist lack of pace in fiction. Yeah. Do read.
